INSEAD MBAs end up working for tech & consulting firms across the world.

During the recruitment season, companies like McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Amazon, Microsoft and so many others used to host information sessions on campus.

Most of them would return to conduct on-campus recruitment — especially consulting firms. In 2022, over 40% INSEAD MBAs got an offer from consulting firms.

One of the reasons the consulting firms prefer INSEAD is its diversity. In 2022, INSEAD students represented a whopping 97 nationalities! For firms hiring for their offices across the globe, there is no other school that offers a student pool comprised of so many nationalities. That makes hiring for those offices much easier.

But How Does That Impact INSEAD Network?

People from all over the world converge for a year for their INSEAD MBAs. They go through a shared experience (and often life-changing ones). And then many of them go back to their home regions.

And over time, the number of alumni increase in all those countries. Currently, INSEAD maintains 49 chapters of their alumni association — meaning there’s a sizeable number of alumni in each of those 49 countries!

Or in other words, if you move to a new country, it’s likely you are going to find a large group of INSEAD alum there.

That’s one of biggest strengths of INSEAD alum.

My Experience With INSEAD Alumni Network Canada

After moving to Canada, I reached out to our alumni network through the WhatsApp group and alumni website. Within hours, I scheduled a few networking calls.

Some of those calls helped me fine-tune my job search journey. A few helped me understand how to integrate with the new culture. And some alumni took their time to review my profile and connect me with relevant opportunities.

Based on my experience, here’s what I’d say about the network:

  • Similar to my MBA experience, the alumni are approachable, knowledgeable, and extremely helping.
  • They are closely knit. There’s always a social event happening.
  • Whenever you speak to them, you get authentic & useful suggestions.

In Toronto, the community is the largest. It likely is smaller than most US schools’ network. However, it doesn’t feel like that because of the way the network is.

What You Should Do As An Alum

Whether you are an INSEAD alum or an alum of another organization, you should put in the effort to help others in need. Your experience can be invaluable to the person who is just starting up.

Just like you’d appreciate support from another alum, you should open doors for others as well.
